Accounting software for a small business in India
Most small businesses do not need more software - they need one place where the billing, the stock and the books are the same set of numbers. That is what Zembook is: real double-entry accounting underneath, with the billing and inventory a business actually works in sitting on top of it.
One set of numbers
The bill you raise moves the stock, the party's balance and the ledger at the same moment, in one transaction. Nothing is reconciled afterwards because nothing was ever separate - and every figure on the Balance Sheet or the P&L can be clicked down to the voucher that produced it.
That single property is what makes the year end survivable. The accounts are not assembled in March; they have been true all along.
It starts where you already are
If you are on Tally or BUSY, those companies import directly - masters, all voucher types, and several past financial years in one file. If you keep a cash book in Excel, that imports as proper Receipt and Payment vouchers. If you keep nothing, opening balances and a party list get you started.
Bank statements come in from PDF, including password-protected and scanned ones, and a photographed supplier bill can be read into a purchase entry you check before saving.
It grows without a new licence
Several companies, each in its own file, and each financial year its own file. Cost centres if you run more than one shop or site from one set of books. Multi-user over your own network, with no server to install and no separate edition to buy.
Staff get their own login with only the permissions they should have, and an audit log records who changed what.
Questions people ask
- Is Zembook free for a small business?
- The Android app is free. On Windows it is free for 90 days with no card asked for, and after that a monthly plan or a one-time lifetime licence.
- Do I need an accountant to use it?
- No. Entry is by bill and voucher, the way the business actually happens, and the accounting follows from that. Your accountant gets the reports as PDF or Excel at the end of the year.
- What happens to my data if I stop paying?
- The company files stay on your PC and remain yours. They are ordinary files, not something held on a server you lose access to.
- Can I use it on more than one computer?
- Yes. One PC holds the books and the others work over the local network. There is also an Android companion app on the same account.
