Daily hisab kitab, without learning accounting
Last updated: 20 July 2026
Most shops do not need accounting. They need to close the day knowing who owes what, and to be able to prove it a month later. That is a much smaller job than accounting software, and it deserves a much smaller app.
Two minutes at closing
Open the customer, tap udhaar or jama, type the amount, add a note if it helps. The balance updates itself. There is no day-end process, no closing entry, nothing to reconcile.
The calculator is where you need it
Type 6×350-200 into the amount field and it resolves. Counting a day's items into one figure is the commonest thing that happens at closing, and leaving the app to do it is where entries get lost.
A month later, it is still there
Every entry keeps the date and time you gave it, so a question about last month is answered by scrolling rather than by remembering. And because the khata backs up to your own Google account, a lost or changed phone is not a lost year.
What this is not
It is not accounting. No GST, no invoices, no purchase entries, no stock, no profit and loss. If you file returns and need those, Zembook is the accounting product and this is not a substitute for it.
It also never handles money - no payments, no collection, no lending. It writes down a debt that already exists.
Questions people ask
Do I need to know accounting to use it?
No. There are two buttons - udhaar and jama - and the balance is worked out for you.
Can I use it for my daily shop expenses too?
It is built for customer-wise udhaar and jama rather than as a general expense book. Many shops keep an entry per person and use notes for detail, but if you need proper expense heads and a P&L, that is Zembook.
Is my hisab private?
It sits under your own Google account, and there is an optional app lock using your phone's fingerprint or screen lock.
Does it cost anything?
No. It is free, with no ads.

More about KhataDesk
The full description is on the KhataDesk page. Common questions are answered on the support page, and how your data is handled is set out in the KhataDesk Privacy Policy.
