KhataDesk
Bina ad wala khata app — because a ledger is not a place for advertising
Last updated: 20 July 2026
A khata is opened twenty times a day, usually with a customer standing in front of you. An advertisement in the middle of that is not a minor annoyance - it is your shop's screen showing somebody else's message while your customer watches.
What no ads actually means here
No banners, no full-screen interstitials between entries, no sponsored offers in the customer list, no loan promotions, and no notification that turns out to be marketing. Not fewer ads or ads you can pay to remove - none.
Then how is it free?
Because it is deliberately small. KhataDesk has no GST, no invoices, no inventory, no accounting and no payments infrastructure to pay for. It is built and maintained alongside Zembook, which is the paid product for businesses that need all of that.
It is worth being suspicious of free apps, and the right question is always what pays for it. Here the answer is: another product does, and this one exists because the people who need a plain khata should not have to buy an accounting package to get one.
No ads also means no data business
Advertising needs to know things about you to be worth selling. With no ads, there is nothing to profile for. Your khata is stored under your own Google account, your phone contacts are read on the device and never uploaded, and there is no ad network in the app to send anything to.
And no offers pretending to be features
The app never offers you a loan, never asks for a bank account or a UPI ID, and never processes a payment. It records a debt that already exists between two people. An app that keeps your udhaar and also wants to lend against it has two jobs that are not on the same side.
Questions people ask
Is KhataDesk really completely free?
Yes - free to download and use, with no ads and no paid tier to unlock the ledger.
Will ads be added later?
No. If that ever changed it would make this page a lie, which is precisely why it is written down here in public.
Do you sell my data instead?
No. Your khata sits under your own Google account, contacts are read on the phone and never uploaded, and there is no advertising network in the app.
What is the catch?
That it is small. No GST, no invoices, no stock, no balance sheet. If you need those, Zembook is the paid product that has them.
