Most khata apps start as a ledger and grow into something else - loans, payments, offers, a marketplace. KhataDesk is built to stay the ledger. It remembers who owes what, and it stops there.
The whole app is two buttons
Udhaar and jama. Amount, a note, and the date and time you choose - the running balance keeps itself. There is nothing to set up, no chart of accounts, no vouchers to learn.
Customers come from your phone contacts, so a name brings its number with it. The contact list is read on your phone only and never uploaded anywhere.
A calculator inside the amount box
Type 6×350-200 straight into the amount field and it works it out. Small, and the thing shopkeepers notice first - because the alternative is leaving the app mid-entry to add something up, and losing your place.
Reminders that come from your own WhatsApp
A statement goes out as a clean card with the balance, from your number, into the customer's own chat. It is your message and your relationship - the app is not messaging your customers on your behalf.
It never touches money
KhataDesk records a debt that already exists between two people. It does not lend, does not collect, does not process payments, and never asks for a bank account or a UPI ID. If an app that keeps your udhaar also wants to lend against it, those two jobs are not on the same side.
When you have outgrown a khata
If you need GST invoices, stock, purchase entries and a balance sheet, a khata app is the wrong tool no matter whose it is. That is what Zembook is for, and they are separate apps with separate accounts - use one, or both.
Questions people ask
Is KhataDesk free?
Yes, and there are no ads in it. Android 8.0 and above.
Can I move my KhataBook data across?
There is no import from other khata apps. Most shops start fresh with each customer's current balance as the opening entry, which takes a few minutes and gives you a clean starting point.
What happens if I change my phone?
Sign in with the same Google account and the khata comes back. The backup is under your own Google account, not on somebody else's server.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. Entries save offline and sync when the connection returns.
Can KhataDesk give me a loan against my udhaar?
No, and it never will. It records debts between you and your customers - it does not lend, collect or move money.

KhataDesk is not on Google Play yet. Write to [email protected] and we will tell you the day it goes live — that is the whole email, and there is no list to be added to beyond it.
